Australia: A Top Investment Opportunity

February 2004

Despite the fact that the Australian dollar rose by over 25% against the American dollar in the past year, Australia is still considered good value according to The Economist’s famous Big Mac index published in mid-January 2004. The McDonald’s Big Mac costs about US$2.80 in the US, but according to the latest index, a Big Mac in Australia costs US$2.33, which (according to commentators) means our currency is 16.4% undervalued against the US dollar. Also, according to the World Bank’s latest report “Doing Business in 2004”, Australia ranked first as the country requiring fewest procedures and days to start a new business.
