Centrelink & Trust Re-orgs
April 2001
The new Centrelink rules will treat the controller of a discretionary trust (by being the appointor) as if he or she were the owner of the trust assets. The effect in many cases would be to make the person ineligible for continued receipt of the government pension or other social security payments. On 20th March 2001, Centrelink announced that the original 2nd April 2001 deadline for providing information regarding one's trust was extended to 31 May 2001.
