Committee Recommends Divorced Parents’ Assets be Revealed
February 2004
On 29 December 2003, the joint standing Committee of the House of Representatives on Family and Community Affairs recommended the government address the problems of divorced parents hiding assets to avoid payment of child support. If the recommended changes become law, insurance companies and superannuation trustees will be forced to notify a government agency prior to any lump sum payments being made to either of the divorced parents.
